A new collection of Sen wood boxes inspired by traditional jubako boxes and Daruma Otoshi games, handmade in Japan by Yamanaka lacquerware specialist Hata Shikki.

Established in 1930 by craftsman Unomatsu Hata, family-owned Hata Shikki continues to preserve and evolve the 450-year history of lacquerware production in the historic hot spring town of Yamanaka Onsen.

Unlike traditional painted lacquerware, the individual Soji Hako box and three-tier stacking boxes retain the natural character of Sen wood beneath the clear surface, creating a striking contrast with the playful colours developed exclusively for Margaret Howell.

Selected from Hata Shikki’s col. series, the lacquered boxes include shallow compartments well suited to storing small items or snacks.
